superdupermegaover: UNTOG (UNTAG): A MULTIMEDIA EXHIBIT, MAY 7, 2011 AT THE CULTURAL CENTER OF THE PHILIPPINES :) There is so much in today’s world that seems to bombard us everywhere we go. Over time, we are raised to think that this is normal and that everything is fine when clearly, that is not the case. As time flies, the oddest of things had happened and to this day, is still happening. And now, we have come to adjust ourselves to the mirage that a lot of factors have conjured on us. This human abode has turned into a sad havoc.Once, an artist said that if something turns out to be deviant, then it isn’t healthy to any further extent. Sooner or later, we would come to a point where we praise those that do good, when in fact all of us should be. One point that proves, good character has been lost in this earthly humanity. The home that we live in, and have tried for the longest time to better with all the technology we developed, has long been corrupted. We have let ourselves succumb to the negativity. But despite all of this, the power withheld by a reaction helps us keep up from where we sank.To react may seem effortless, but it is a cycle not quite perceptible. To have something to ponder on, to react to or on that, and to find others, contemplating on your own reaction— The cycle simply repeats, but with a larger understanding of why and how. With a single reaction, one can provoke others to do the same, or better. And it can go a long way, if done right. To Untag one’s self is to detach from what he or she thinks does not do well for him or her. Likewise, it is a way of escaping truths or lies, but for the most part, the truth that one tends to hide. In the same way, there is Untog, which is a Filipino term that means “to bump or the manner in which one bumped into something”. These two words, strong and straight forward, are the vehicles that bind this show. Also, the great deal behind this execution of addressing the illusion with only the best of intentions.In this show, we are given a variety of things, starting from the personal works which some may find similar. How our feelings can compose a cause & effect. About The families that have grown to be our strength. We tackle our thinking; what we consider a means of putting our self out there, even the nightmares that have held us for so long. The environment that is slowly taken from us and the evolution of the urban streets that goes with it. We talk of the media that controls us in all the wrong ways, and those things that mislead us. We present works about personal happiness and pleasure, the things that keep us sane, despite the chaos. We put forward, the things that have lead us to reacting, the things that have fuelled us to come up with this exhibition. We share with you the fruits of our labor, our way of responding to the things that are happening around us. We invite you, to involve yourself in these brave new works from brave new artists, presenting themselves in different types of art forms. Works ranging from 3D, Illustrations, Photography, Video, Traditional & Mixed Media Paintings, Installations and Print, all an emerging perspective of every individual in the group. 31 artists gathered together in this show, to share their versatility in expressing their beliefs. To showcase their capability & talent, to let the public absorb, ponder & react on their pieces. To articulate that art gives everyone the freedom to communicate.
